ROGERS PACES GASTONIA WIN
Jason Rogers belted a pair of homers and drove in five runs on Wednesday night to lead the Gastonia Honey Hunters to a 10-3 victory, their second straight win over the Lancaster Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the win, Gastonia improved to 6-5 on the season while the Barnstormers fell to 6-6.
Rogers connected on a drive to right center field in the top of the first off Dominic DiSabatino (0-2) staking Gastonia to an early 2-0 lead. The Gastonia first baseman capped the scoring with a three-run drive onto the picnic deck off newcomer Augie Sylk in the eighth.
Miles Williams added a solo homer for Gastonia in the first, and Jake Skole went deep on a three-run shot in the fifth that snapped a 3-3 tie.
The Barnstormers managed to strike only in the third. Alejandro De Aza and Melvin Mercedes greeted Jailen Peguero (1-1) with singles. One out later, Trayvon Robinson walked to load the bases. LeDarious Clark beat out a roller to shortstop to knock home one run. Kelly Dugan dumped a single into right center for two more, tying the game.
The series concludes on Thursday evening with the Barnstormers throwing Danny Taggart (0-1) against right-hander William Kirwan (0-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:25.
NOTES: Mercedes stretched his on-base streak to 12…Lancaster used newcomers Sylk and Gabriel Moya in the game…Sylk worked three innings, allowing six hits and four runs…Moya pitched a scoreless ninth…Dugan has seven RBI in the last three games where he has had an official at bat.
