BARNSTORMERS ROLL TO NINTH STRAIGHT

Cordero, Feliz Lead Club to 10-6 Victory

Andretty Cordero went 4-for-5, and Anderson Feliz drove in four runs as the Lancaster Barnstormers rolled to a 10-6 victory at Clipper Magazine Stadium early Sunday evening.

It was Lancaster’s ninth straight win and kept the Barnstormers 3 ½ games ahead of Southern Maryland in the North and even with the Wild Health Genomes in a potential wild card race.

In the bottom of the first, Melvin Mercedes led off with a single and Cordero followed with a double off the gate in right center.  Jacob Barfield produced the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Feliz built a 3-0 lead off Francisco Carrillo (0-2, 0-5) with his sixth homer of the season.

Cordero doubled home Trace Loehr in the second for a 4-0 lead and singled Loehr home in the fourth as the advantage stretched to 5-1.  Trayvon Robinson singled home a run later in the fourth, and the Barnstormers salted the game away with a four-run sixth.  Loehr again the uprising started, this time with a single to left center.  He took second on an infield out, stole third and rode home on Cordero’s single to right.  Following a walk of Barfield and Robinson being hit by a pitch, Feliz drilled a double past third base to cap Lancaster’s scoring.

Cameron Gann (6-8) gave Lancaster a solid five-inning start, yielding only one hit, a first inning single by Angel Aguilar.  Staten Island scored in the third on a walk, wild pitch, passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Antoine Duplantis.

The Ferryhawks had a better evening against the Lancaster bullpen.  Andres Noriega singled home a run in the seventh.  Two more crossed in the eighth, one on a Chase Johnson wild pitch, the other on a sacrifice fly by Rusney Castillo.  Alfredo Reyes clubbed a two-run homer in the ninth, his first of the year, before Donald Goodson finally ended the game with a strikeout of Aguilar.

Lancaster will host the Long Island Ducks in a three-game series starting on Tuesday.  Oscar De La Cruz (6-1) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Scott Harkin (8-6) on Foodie Tuesday.  Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:30.

NOTES:  The homer by Feliz is the only one by a Lancaster batter in the last five games…Feliz has nine RBI in the last four games…Cordero now has 88 RBI to pull within 15 of Aaron Herr’s franchise record…He has 129 hits on the season…Mercedes scored for the 76th time this season…The nine-game winning streak is three short of the franchise record, set in May, 2018.ReplyReply allīƒ…Forward
