Ballpark of the Year

On May 11, 2005, Lancaster’s Ballpark, Clipper Magazine Stadium, opened its doors for the very first time. With the Barnstormers hosting the Atlantic City Turf, our ballpark provided an outlet for Lancastrians to enjoy America’s favorite pastime.

The Barnstormers inherit a strong baseball tradition in the Red Rose City, dating back to the late 1800’s.  That history includes teams like the Maroons, the All-African American Giants (1897) and, of course, a few incarnations of the Red Roses, who lasted through 1961.

Talks of a new baseball team began in 1987, nonetheless, it took 16 long years to bring baseball back to Lancaster. In 2003, the announcement of a new baseball team was finally made, in hopes to develop downtown Lancaster further.

The groundbreaking ceremony occurred April 28th, 2004 and the stadium was finished right in time for opening day on May 11, 2005.

Clipper Magazine Stadium has quite a few features that make it rather unique. Areas like the May-Grant Little Slugger Dugout, Broken Bat Bar & Grille, and Subaru Outdoor Experience provide convenience as well as improving the experience of watching ‘Stormers games overall. Our goal is to utilize these properties in our stadium to give off the feel and comfort of a second home for all Lancastrians.

May-Grant Little Slugger Dugout

Broken Bat Bar & Grille

Subaru Outdoor Experience

The Subaru Outdoor Experience includes games like Life Size Jenga, Shuffleboard, Ping Pong, Giant Checkers, and Bocce Ball – along with an art wall of kayak, bike, and recycling arts parts and information, a dog kissing booth, a barber shop corner, and opportunities to engage with the local businesses, which makes this unique space rather unique.
